UPDATE #2 – 5/12/09
Well, as of 12:45 p.m. today, you can basically ignore everything below this update.
Despite putting out an official press release this morning, the folks at Pipeline Cafe now say former Journey lead singer Steve Perry will not perform at the Kakaako nightclub next month.
According to a Los Angeles-based attorney for the singer, Pipeline never had permission to host a public performance by Perry. Club owner Greg Azus confirmed a few minutes ago that the concert is not going to happen.
Too bad there are lots of Steve Perry fans who would pay good money to see him perform in Honolulu.
UPDATE – 5/12/09:
Pipeline Cafe put out a press release within the last hour announcing that Steve Perry will indeed perform at the club on June 25.
Doors open at 7 p.m. that night, with the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $28 general admission and $60 for VIP access, and go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday at the club, Hawaii’s Natural High and online at www.groovetickets.com. You can also order by phone at (877) 714-7668.
Despite selling out multiple shows at the Blaisdell Arena, the one gripe I heard repeatedly when Journey returned to Honolulu earlier this year was, “It’s not the real Journey without Steve Perry.”
Well, those folks will be happy to know that Mr. Perry will be making the trip here next month for a concert. There isn’t much online about his recent activities the most recent performance video available on YouTube was shot in 1994.
The magic date is June 25, and tickets are expected to go on sale this weekend.
More details to come in my column, “In the Mix,” in the HILife section of Friday’s Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
